Program
Our Finlav Snow Safety 1 is two and a half day course. It begins on the first day at 6 pm as an indoor lecture in mountain hut Tamokhuset, and goes on for the next two days mostly in the outdoors. Both of the outdoor days include at least one tour, during which we do variety of exercises, from basic beacon training to full search and rescue scenario, as well as many other things. Both outdoor days begin 9 am and go on for up to eight hours.
Overall the course lasts for about 18 hours.
Skill level & experience
The course is suitable for anybody who has basic skills in off-piste skiing or snowboarding. Previous experience from touring or snow safety is not necessary.
Age
The age limit for participation for minors without caretaker is 14 years. Minors need to have an approval from caretaker.
Finlav Snow Safety 1
Snow Safety 1 provides fundamentals about avalanches and avalanche danger. Participants learn to mitigate avalanche accident risk by searching and interpreting relevant information, trip planning, decision making, recognizing and avoiding avalanche terrain and finding safe routes in easy terrain. Companion rescue is also taught.

Tamok
Tamok is a small mountain range in northern Norway. It is located about 250 km north of the Arctic Circle in Balsfjord municipality of Troms County- just south of the more famous Lyngen Alps.
Tamok range has dozens of fine peaks. Terrain varies from safe and easy to challenging and complex, even extreme.
Tamok has excellent riding both below and above treeline, for all skill levels. Snow conditions are often good.
The area has a lot of all kinds of avalanche terrain, and it is famous for frequent avalanches. Thus, it is and excellent place for studying a snow safety.
Tamokhuset
Tamokhuset, or simply Huset, is a lodge in the heart of Tamok Valley. Huset is a great base for exploring and discovering the awe inspiring nature of this wild northern region.
Built in 1978 the facility served the valley inhabitants as a community house until mid 2010s. Since, it has been transformed into a mountain hut for visiting skiers and other travelers.
Tamokhuset is simple but comfortable. It has eight bedrooms, large living/diningroom, dressing rooms and showers for men and women, toilets, kitchen and small room for drying gear.
The bedrooms sleep 32 guests. Four of the rooms are very compact while the rest are a little bit more spacious. Each room has two bunkbeds, and sleep up to four persons.
Huset kitchen serves excellent food. Alcoholic drinks are not served.

Access
Tamok is centrally located in Troms county, and it is easy to get to by car.
The main crossroad of the region on highway E6 is on the north side of the range, in the town of Nordkjosbotn, roughly 25 minute drive from Tamokhuset.
Tamok Valley is reached by Tamokveien, road 87, which starts about 10 km from Nordkjosbotn. From south, access to the vallley is through the town of Øvergård, about 20 minute drive from Huset.
City of Tromsø is just under 100 km away, in normal conditions the drive to/from Tromsø airport takes bit over an hour.
Closest airport Bardufoss is 55 km or 60 min by car.
Both Bardufoss and Tromsø have daily flights from Oslo.
Currently, there is no public transportation to Tamok Valley. Closest bus stops are in Nordkjosbotn and in Øverbygd.
Having a vehicle is not absolutely necessary, but it is highly advisable to arrive with private car.
PAYMENT, CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICIES
Upon reservation, you will receive an invoice for the course fee.
The due date of the invoice will be 14 days from the reservation.
If the course starts within 45 days of reservation, the payment is due immediately.
We do not accept checks or money orders.
Group registration:
The leader of the group will be responsible for collecting all deposits and payments for the entire group.
Each member of the group need to complete our registration form individually.
The policy for cancelation and refunds is valid individually for all the members of the group.
Cancellations
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to info@cohkka.com and confirmed by Cohkka Guides.
Refunds
If you cancel your reservation prior to 30 days before the start of your trip will be fully refunded.
No refund will be available for cancellations within 30 days or less to the start of the trip.
Date Changes
Date changes must be submitted in writing to info@cohkka.com and confirmed by Cohkka Guides.
You can change the dates prior to 30 days before the start of the course for no extra cost.
Date changes that are available within Cohkka Guides booking calendar will be accepted without any extra fees.
Date changes within 30 days or less to the start of the trip will be charged 100 % of the payment.
